PLA vs PETG vs TPU: Which Material Should You Choose?

Picking a material sounds technical, but the choice usually comes down to one question: where will the part live and what will it do?

PLA โ€” the everyday default

Easy to print, crisp detail, great range of colors, and the most affordable option. Perfect for decorative pieces, models, prototypes, toys, and anything that stays indoors at room temperature. Its one weakness: it softens in a hot car or direct summer sun.

PETG โ€” the tough all-rounder

Stronger and more heat- and moisture-resistant than PLA. Choose it for functional parts, brackets, outdoor items, and anything that takes a bit of stress or lives in a warm spot. A great default when a part actually has a job to do.

TPU โ€” the flexible one

Rubbery and bendable. Ideal for phone cases, gaskets, grips, straps, and protective bumpers โ€” anything that needs to flex or absorb shock rather than stay rigid.
